Crisis: X-MUN

The Cinco de Gaucho: Second French Intervention in Mexico, 1862 committee focuses on President Benito Juárez and his government-in-exile as they fight to expel French forces and restore Mexico’s republican government. Delegates, including military leaders and key officials, must strategize and navigate internal divisions to resist French imperial ambitions and secure Mexico’s sovereignty.

Chair
Josh Whitesel
Josh Whitesel is a fourth-year Communication & Film and Media Studies student from the great city of Sacramento, CA. He is also the incumbent President of the REALITY UCSB filmmaking club, where he watches every film grow from conception to completion like a proud (yet distant) uncle. He loves comic books and really wanted Gwenpool to be in this committee. He is also an avid baseball fan and if you say anything bad about the Giants he will cry (and probably agree with you).

Co-Chair
Nicole Meng
My name is Nicole Meng (She/They), and I am incredibly excited to serve as your co-chair for “XMUN,” GauchoMUN’s Crisis Committee. As your co-chair, I look forward to seeing all of your amazing and entertaining arcs for our conference. I encourage you to be as creative and explorative as possible.
I am currently in my third year at UC Santa Barbara, majoring in History of Public Policy and Law. I was born in the San Gabriel Valley in southern California, but I have moved around throughout my life. I lived in China for four years in the provinces of Guangdong and Liaoning. Any Chinese-speaking delegates feel free to strike up a conversation with me in Cantonese or Mandarin. I love fun and niche history, so please share any interesting history facts you know. I love reading and am an avid book collector who enjoys YouTube book reviews. My YouTube is also filled with a variety of video essays on the human experience, TV shows, movies, and history. I have a wide range of interests, so I hope we can find things to connect on.
I have been a Marvel and DC fan for years due to the influence of my older brother. My favorite Marvel media is the first Iron Man movie. My favorite DC media is Young Justice. I hope you all enjoy the theme of this committee as much as I do!
My range of interests is also what makes me enjoy Model UN. Students in the Model UN world specialize in all sorts of subjects and are always amusing in every way. I enjoyed my previous experiences as a Staffer, Crisis Director, and Chair, so I look forward to co-chairing this committee. I look forward to meeting you all and seeing your posts. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Crisis Director
Jordan Paynter
Jordan Paynter is a second year sociology and history double major. He started model UN his freshman year and is thankful for it because it gave me him the opportunity to meet his roommates for this year. Outside of MUN, Jordan loves to box so he can get CTE , watch NFL Red Zone, and meal prep. After undergrad, he plans to go to law school and work in either corporate or entertainment law. He is genuinely so excited to bring the world of X-Men and its characters to life at this conference!
